the tea hills

on the road up to alishan mountain, you'll notice many, many acres of tea plants and plenty of tea harvesters and fermenters. after a conversation (and tea) with one of the locals, i learned that the conditions towards to top of alishan are ideal for growing tea. the low clouds provide lots of humidity for the plants, and the air is not too hot. since the mountain is so steep, they have to grow the tea on terraced plots. alishan is supposed to be home to some of the best tea in taiwan.

but for me, the main focus of this picture is the house. there's something so nice and down to earth about this place.
